This picture would be nothing if it weren’t for the gentleman on the left. His name is Randy, one of the trek guides.
Early in the trek Randy took me aside. He’d heard about the death of my son. Instinctively he seemed to know, that trekking for me came with a particular need – and he said: if when I found myself at ‘that moment’, ie: when I needed to step out and take some time, I was to just do so. He’d wait me……
That moment did occur – not here, but later. And Randy, true to his word, as patient as the landscape, carefully waited……
This picture captures for me that essence of Randy, a man hardly dwarfed by but rather, so clearly in tune with this planet.
